The family of Edmund Lilly and Edith Meador, married in 1795 in Botetourt County, Virginia. They lived in Montgomery County, Virginia, in an area that later became Mercer County, West Virginia.

Josiah Meador (1736-ca. 1795) was descended from Thomas Mead/Meador/ Meadows. Most of Josiah's own descendants seem to have spelled it "Meador." His wife was named Lavinia; they had four children. Most descendants are in West Virginia and surrounding states.

Francis Meadows (b. 1736) married Mary Bell. They had four sons. Most descendants are in West Virginia. All four lines are traced.

Marion Carroll Harty (1864-1917) of Missouri married Matilda Elizabeth Meador (1872-1924). Marion's Harty ancestors originate in the Netherlands. Other lines of the Harty and Meador families have been traced to various states in the South. Includes Bonnell (a Huguenot name), Meador, Napier, Heath, Boone, and related families.

Other variants of the name used by some descendants are Meads, Meadors, and Meadow. Thomas Mead (ca. 1612 or 1618-ca. 1655) was born in England. Six children are on record. Most descendants in the United States are in West Virginia.

"Old Jim" Crawford (ca 1776-1864), his wife and seven children lived in Monroe County, Kentucky. Ancestors were Scotch-Irish but had been in this country since before the Revolutionary War. Descendants lived chiefly in Kentucky and Texas.
