Christopher Merkley was born in 1808 in Williamsburg Township, Dundas County, Ontario, the son of Jacob Markel or Merkley. He married Sarah Davis in 1828. They joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1837 and immigrated to Illinois, with their young son. He married 2) Eva Stowell at Nauvoo in 1845. The family migrated to Utah with the Latter-day Saint pioneers in 1849 and settled in Salt Lake City. He was the father of nine children....

Lorin William Merkley (1885-1947) was born in St. Charles, Bear Lake County, Idaho and moved with his family to Fairview, Wyoming, and Big Horn County, Wyoming. He served an LDS mission to the Southern States. Afterwards, he married Martha Smith (1882-1936). She was born in Woodland, Summit County, Utah. Lorin and Martha lived in Wapello, Pebble, and Bancroft, Idaho; then moved to Mesa, Arizona.

Alice Myrtle Munro was born in Winchester Township, Ontarion in 1930, the daughter of Calvin Samuel Munro (1890-1973) and Minnie Luella Merkley Munro (1892-1956). She married William Ren Elliott (b. 1922) in 1949. They had seven children, 1949-1962, all born in Winchester Township.

During the Revolutionary War, five of his six sons relocated in Canada because of their Loyalist leanings. Christian was one of the Loyalist sons. He married Elizabeth Bauman and had 5 children. Charles Claymore Bartlett (1848-1916) was born in Newbury Township, Ohio, son of Henry Bartlett and Seleucia Davis. In 1867, he joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Utah and married Annie Katrine Jensen in Salt Lake City in 1868.
