Elijah Merryman (1770-1849) was born in Baltimore County, Maryland, possibly the son of George Merryman (1734-1823). He married Elizabeth Hartline (1782-1848) in 1800 in Taylor Township, Centre County, Pennsylvania. Descendants lived in Pennsylvania, Probable ancestry traced to John Merryman from Herefordshire, England who came to Lancaster County, Virginia in 1645.

Thomas Curtis and his second wife, Richardene, had six children when Thomas died, ca. 1632. Richardene married Thomas Chambers, and the family immigrated to the Plymouth Colony in 1638, and settled in Scituate, Massachusetts. Walter Merryman was kidnapped in an Irish port in 1700 and brought to Boston, Massachusetts, where he was indentured to a shipbuilder in Portland, Maine. He married Elizabeth Potter and settled in Harpswell, Maine. Descendants and relatives lived in Maine, New Hampshire, Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, Idaho and elsewhere.

Dorothea Margaretha Sievert, daughter of Bendix Hinrich Sievert and Anna Margaretha Nickel, was born in 1808 in Nettelsee, Prussia. She married her second husband, Hans Johann Kröger, in 1846. They emigrated in 1847 and settled in Iowa. She married Henry Blöcker in 1848.

James Madison Merryman, son of Presley Merryman, was born in about 1809 in Caroline County, Virginia. He married his first wife and had four children. He married Elizabeth Sample, daughter of Alexander Sample and Mary Pistole, in 1848 in Marengo County, Alabama. They had two children. He died in about 1856 in Robertson County, Texas. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived mainly in England, Virginia and Texas.
