The emigrant ancestor, Michael Metcalf (1587-1664), was born at Tatterford, Norfolk County. He was the son of Leonard Metcalf of Beare Park. He came to New England from London in 1636. George Metcalf(e), son of John Metcalfe and Maria Triplady, was born in 1808 in West Riding, Yorkshire, England. He married Jane Morphet in 1835. They had eight children. They emigrated in 1845 and settled in Uxbridge, Ontario. He died in 1874 in Ashburn, Ontario.

Levi Yates was born in Missouri in 1862. He married Laura Metcalf and they moved their family to Montana. They had 17 children although not all of them survived to adulthood. Information on their ancestral lines, siblings, as well as their descendants is given in this volume. Today their descendants live in Montana, Oregon, Washington, Wyoming, and elsewhere. Nathaniel Whiting was living at Salem, Massachusetts, by 1638. He married Hannah Dwight, daughter of John and Hannah Dwight, at Dedham, Massachusetts, in 1643. They had fourteen children, 1644- 1672. He died at Dedham in 1682. Descendants listed lived in Massachusetts and elsewhere. Includes the Bullard, Draper, Fisher, Metcalf and other related families.

Paul Gilmore Thompson, son of Henry Gilmore Thompson (1907-1964) and Verla Dorothy Rupe (1908-1939), was born in 1927 in Sioux City, Iowa. His grandparents were John Justice Thompson, Fannie Melissa Metcalf, Lyman Elza Rupe and Rhoda Hetta Belle Shive. He married Shirley May Gudmundson in 1946 in Preston, Idaho. He died in 2009 in Bountiful, Utah. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived mainly in Pennsylvania, New York and Iowa.
