John Prater (ca. 1492-ca. 1547) was born in England. He married his wife Elene (ca. 1493-ca. 1547) about 1510. They had three children. A great-grandson, Thomas Prater (born ca. 1578) immigrated to Virginia ca. 1624, where he married and fathered five sons. Jonathan Prather, the ancestor of the rest of the people here noted, is believed to be one of those five. Descendants live along the east coast of the United States.
