Theodor Arthur Moll was born in 1919 at Kentani, a village in the Transkeian Territories, South Africa, the son of Eduard Moll (1887-1958) and Rosa Hulda Raasch Moll (1888-1945), and the great grandson of Franciscus Xaverius Moll (1825-1889), a German emigrant. His father had moved from Frankfort in 1909 to open a general dealer's store at Kentani. The family lived in living quarters attached to the shop. Adolph Christian Ferdinand Moll, son of Johann Friedrich Ludwig Moll and Maria Carolina Friderica Burmeister, was born 9 April 1834 in Perleberg, Kreis Westpregnitz, Brandenburg, Prussia. He emigrated in 1852. He married Emma Friederike Hedwig Ballaseus, daughter of Johann Wilhelm Ballaseus and Julianna Justina (aka Ida Augusta) Wagner. He died 22 June 1898 in St. Louis, Missouri.
