The Morton appears to have been in Yorkshire for centuries. The earliest tracable ancestor was Edmund Morton (d. 1586) of the estate of Salendine Nook located close to Lindley and west of Huddersfield. Descendants immigrated to Canada.

Sir John Douglas (d.1350) married Agnes Monfode, lived at Lochleven, Scotland, and defended Scotland against the English. Some descendants became Lords of Dalkeith, which lordship was created as the Earldom of Morton in 1457/1458. Includes descendants to 1588.

Frederick Lockwood Lipman was born 21 February 1866 in San Francisco, California. He was the son of Charles Lipman (from Pennsylvania) and Frances C. Kellogg (from New Jersey). Frederick married Edith Law 25 July 1891 in Virginia City, Nevada. They lived in California and were the parents of three known children. Frederick died 11 May 1950 in Berkley, California.
