John Smith (1775-ca. 1805) was living in Anson County, North Carolina in 1800 with his wife, Phereby Turner (1780-ca. 1830). Tradition holds that John's ancestors left Halifax County, North Carolina for the Mississippi Delta but liked the Little Brown Creek section of Union County so well when they saw it that they decided to stay there. Anson and Union are adjoining counties in the south-central part of North Carolina.

Jan Slot/Slote/Sloate, the son of Klaas Slot (1780-1859) and Neeltje Latour (1789-1853), was born in Harenkarspel, Nord Holland. In 1858, he and Aagje Vader were married. In 1874, with their five surviving children, they immigrated to New Brunswick and then to Michigan. Descendants lived also in Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, California and elsewhere.
