Joseph Mecham was born 15 June 1780 in Canaan, Grafton, New Hampshire. His parents were Samuel Mecham and Phebe Main. He married Sarah Basford (1772-1838), daughter of Jonathan Basford and Sarah or Rachel, 6 September 1801. They had six children. Joseph died in 1845 in Nauvoo, Illinois. John David Frey (1877-1918) was born in Gallonhoff-Sexelburg, Germany, the son of Gottlob Frey (1837-1894) and Catherine Werst Frey (1838-1899). His family immigrated to the United States in 1892 and settled for a short while in Pennsylvania, then moved to Bucyrus, Crawford County, Ohio. He married Hazel Smith in 1910 at Upper Sandusky, Ohio.
