Phillip Ballard was born ca. 1705 in Essex County, Virginia. He married Ann Nancy Johnson ca.1733 in Orange County, Virginia. They had 11 children there. Of these children, only Larkin, the 8th, died out of state (Kentucky). Lawrence Johnson (1801-1860) was a descendant of Richard Johnson (b. ca. 1550) and Ann Sympson who were married in Lincolnshire in 1576. He was born in Hull, England and died in Philadelphia, Penn. In 1825, he married Sarah Bacon Murray (1808-1834). They had two children. In 1837, he married Mary Winder (1814-1877) and they had ten children. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived in England, Pennsylvania, New York and elsewhere.
