Samuel Hotchkiss was one son of John Hotchkiss and Margaret Newett, of Dodington, England. Samuel left England and came with the Davenport Colony to New Haven, Connecticut, in 1638. Some of Samuel's siblings immigrated also. Samuel married Elizabeth Cleverly in 1642. Their children were John, Samuel, James, Sarah, Joshua, Thomas and Daniel. Moses Hanks (ca. 1747-1831), probably the son of Luke Hanks (d. ca. 1756), married Aggatha Doson, ca. 1768. They had twelve children, 1769-1793, all born in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. The family migrated to Lincoln County, Kentucky, ca. 1798, and to Williamson County, Tennessee, in 1806. Descendants listed lived in Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and elsewhere.

Harry Walter Norton, Sr. married Leanora Ellen Mims (Fiske?), daughter of Wilbur Fiske and Orline Graham Mims. Leanora was born April 25, 1885 and died December 29, 1928.
