The Trimble family originated in Argyllshire, Scotland. One of the Trimbles assisted Oliver Cromwell in his destruction of Ireland. He was rewarded with a large estate. One of his sons, James Trimble, returned to Ireland and settled in Cumberland. He and his descendants became yeomen farmers.
