Andreas Gar (born 1685), son of John and Elizabeth Gar, married Eve Seidelmann in 1711 and emigrated from Bavaria, Germany, to Orange County, Virginia in 1732. Descendants (chiefly spelling the surname Garr, with some spelling it as Gaar) lived in Virginia, Mississippi, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Texas and elsewhere. Some descendants are LDS. Includes some genealogy and family history of ancestry in Germany.

The early ancestor of this family was probably Matthias Waggoner, who was born in 1726 and settled in eastern Pennsylvania in the mid-1700's. His son, John (1765-1843), married Anna/Mary Barbara Depare. John's son, Peter (1795-1883), married Sarah Oswalt (1797-1871). Sarah was a descendant of John Oswalt who came to Pennsylvania from Germany ca. 1753. Family members lived in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and elsewhere....
