William Brown (ca. 1725-ca. 1800), his wife, Chistiana Thompson Brown, and their five children, emigrated from Scotland and settled in western Pennsylvania, in 1772. They lived for some time in the Scottish settlement in what is now Washington County. He is buried at Venetia, Washington County, Pennsylvania. The first four were probably born in Pennsylvania, the others in Prince George's County, Maryland. He was the first permanent German settler west of Frederick County, Maryland.
