Peter Penner was born in the Mennonite settlements of Russia in 1850. His family had come from Germany to Russia and soon after his marriage to Margaretha Wiebe he brought his family to southern Canada. He was a contemporary (with many more descendants) of William Brooks (ca.1700-1767), who lived in Hamilton Parish, Fauquier County, Virginia. Kenelm Winslow (1599-1672) was born at Droitwich, Worcestershire, England, the son of Edward and Magdaline Ollyver Winslow. He immigrated to America in 1629. He married Eleanor Newton Adams (1598-1681), a widow with three children, in 1634 at Plymouth. They had four children, ca. 1635-ca. 1641. Descendants and relatives listed lived in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Ohio, New York, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin and elsewhere.

The first four were probably born in Pennsylvania, the others in Prince George's County, Maryland. He was the first permanent German settler west of Frederick County, Maryland.
