John Wooten (1795-1869) and Elizabeth (1800-1876), both of South Carolina, were married ca. 1818 and moved to Georgia, where they acquired land in Habersham County. Sometime between 1835 and 1840, they moved to Chatooga County; they raised a family of 13 children. Both John and Elizabeth died in Chatooga County. Thomas Combes (1794-1877) married three times and moved from Virginia to Indiana. Includes some ancestry and many descendants. Descendants lived chiefly in Indiana and Ohio.

Felix D. Fowler was born in 1809 in West Virginia and married Susan Pitman about 1830. They moved to Butler County, Ohio before 1832, and in 1855 to Fredonia, Louisa County, Iowa. He died in 1859. His descendants are still in the area and are traced up to 1945.

John Isaac Payton was born 28 March 1856 in Washington Township, Allen Co., Indiana. He was the fourth son of William P. Payton and Sarah Jane Clinger. In 1880, he married Josephine A. Rondot. They were the parents of six children and resided in Fort Wayne, Indiana. After the death of Josephine, John married Mary Leize 24 June 1900. His descendants lived primarily in Indiana and elsewhere.

William Woody (ca.1730-1790) emigrated from England to land along the Potomac River in Virginia, later moving to Surry and then Orange and Caswell Counties, North Carolina. Descendants lived in North Carolina, Georgia, Missouri, Kansas, Iowa and elsewhere.

Frederick Emmert was born 16 June 1850 in Kentucky. His mother was Fredricka Schick. His father and two brothers went to fight in the Civil War and never returned home. Frederick married Catherine Roggensuess (1852-1916) 25 December 1870 in Indiana. They had fourteen children. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Indiana.

Chiefly a record of some of the descendants of John Walker. He was born ca. 1798 in Tennessee. He married Elizabeth Hunter 9 May 1818 in Tennessee. She was born ca. 1800. They were the parents of fourteen children. Descendants live throughout the United States. .

John Hord and his family immigrated to Virginia from England. John and his wife Jane are listed as the parents of children born in Middlesex County, Virginia as early as 1703. Their children were John, Thomas, James, Elizabeth, Peter, William, Ambrose and Susannah. The family lived in an area named Shady Grove, Virginia.

Joseph Hutton was born in 1730 in Chester County, Pennsylvania. His parents, John Hutton and Sarah Lightfoot, were from Ireland. He married Sarah Janney and they had six children. Traces descendants through their son Abel and his son Isaac, who was the father of William Lewis Hutton, the author's grandfather.
