Sheffield Peabody was born in New York in 1830. He married Mary Marilla Robinson and they had six children. He farmed in New York until 1889. From then until 1895 when he returned to New York he homesteaded in Oklahoma Territory. Information on his time in Oklahoma from his diaries and pertinent documents is included in this volume. He lived the rest of his life in New York. Material was compiled by a great-granddaughter.

John Paybody was born in England ca. 1590. He married Isabel (surname and parents not listed). John died in Bridgewater, Mass. in 1667. They were the parents of 4 children, of which, the second son, Francis is the progenitor of this Colorado Peabody line.
