George Smith Rust (1834-1922) son of William Walker Rust and Mary Thurston Rand (d. 1839), was born in Kellyvale, Vermont. His father moved to Nauvoo, Illinois in 1841 and to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1847. George married Eliza Sophia Brown (1838-1930) in 1855 in Mormon Grove, Kansas. He died in Manti, Utah.

He married Sarah Reasor (1810-1861), daughter of Fredrick Reasor and Sarah Kester, in 1828 in Floyd County Indiana. They had nine children. They migrated to Utah in 1850.
