John Murphy Ward was born ca. 1810, in Orange County, North Carolina, to Richard C. Ward and Mary Ann Murphey Ward. John married Nancy (Warren or Walker) ca. 1828 in Claiborne County, Tennessee. They were the parents of 13 children. Nancy died 10 June 1857. John married second, Chloe Hall, daughter of Owen and Susanna Hall of Lee County, Virginia. They were the parents of 4 children.
