Pierce Hawley was born 14 November 1788 in Vergennes, Addison County, Vermont. His parents were Gideon Hawley and Lavinia Darrah. They moved to Illinois in 1818. The earliest known ancestor, Andreas I Eyb, was born 1536 in Waiblingen, and married Anna Volz in Calw ca. 1553. He was a town pastor in Schorndorf from 1574 to 1590.
