John Amburgey, Jr. was born in 1758 on a farm once owned by his German immigrant grandfather Conrad Amberger. The latter died about 1742 when his son John Amburgey, Sr. was about twelve years old. William Sims and his wife, Martha, immigrated from Scotland to Culpeper County, Virginia as early as 1740. John Sims (1800-1875) was a direct descendant in the fourth generation, born near Knoxville, Tennessee and moving to land near Brookville, Indiana. John married Irene K. Allen in 1823, and settled at Fairfield, Indiana. Descendants and relatives lived in Virginia, Tennessee, Ohio, Indiana, New York and elsewhere.

George Funk is the earliest known Funk in America. He landed in Philadelphia in 1741 and was originally from the Palatinate or upper Rhine valley of Germany. He settled in Lancaster, Pennsylvania where he died before 1771. Some of his descendants eventually moved to the Ohio territory where they settled in Coshocton County. Descendants live in Ohio and other parts of the United States.

Conrad Johannes Amberger/Amburgey was born 2 February 1682/83 in Germany. He married Barbara. Their son, John, was born in 1728 in Spotsylvania, Virginia. John married Ann in 1750 in Culpeper County, Virginia. They had three children. He also married Margaret and they had one child. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Virginia, Kentucky and Missouri.

George Webb married Nancy Knuckles, daughter of John Knuckles, 13 February 1795 in Botetourt County, Virginia. They had two children. He married Caroline Ritchie, widow of John Ritchie, and they had one child. He died in about 1821 in Tazewell County, Virginia. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Virginia, West Virginia and Ohio.
