Moses Helm was probably born in Ireland before 1710. He married Sarah and they immigrated to America about 1740. They settled in Virginia where they became the parents of eight children. Information collected on many of their descendants is given in this material which was the background material for a book published on the descendants of Moses Helm. Descendants now live in Tennessee, Virginia, Illinois, Mississippi, and elsewhere.

Virginia Porter was born in Utah in 1909 to Chauncey Union and Marietta Sailor Porter. Her father's family were early converts to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who came west about 1850. She married Howard D. Roberts and they lived in southern Utah. Theras Orson Allred (1888-1972) was born in St. Charles, Idaho. When he was five years old, his family moved to Starr Valley, Wyoming. He grew up in western Wyoming. In 1909 he married Florence Rheuama Porter (1889-1975). Florence was born in Lyman, Idaho and moved at an early age to Starr Valley, Wyoming. Rufus Porter, son of Tyler Porter and Abigail Johnson, was bornin 1792 in West Boxford, Massachusetts. He was one of six children. He married Eunice Twombly (c. 1795-1848) in 1815 and they had ten children. In 1849 he married Emma Tallman Edgar (1820-?) and they had six children. He died in 1884 in West Haven, Connecticut.

James D. Porter was born Dec. 7, 1828 in Paris Tennessee. He married Susanna Dunlap in 1851. James Porter was 1st elected governor of the state of Tennessee in 1874. He died on the 18th of May, 1912 at his home in Paris, Tennessee.

John Horn (1743-1826) was born in Virginia (?). He married Sarah Gardner about 1775. Sarah died in 1784. In 1785 he married Catherine Gardner. John died in Amwell Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania.
