Description
Moses Helm was probably born in Ireland before 1710. He married Sarah and they immigrated to America about 1740. They settled in Virginia where they became the parents of eight children. Information collected on many of their descendants is given in this material which was the background material for a book published on the descendants of Moses Helm. Descendants now live in Tennessee, Virginia, Illinois, Mississippi, and elsewhere.

Rufus Porter, son of Tyler Porter and Abigail Johnson, was bornin 1792 in West Boxford, Massachusetts. He was one of six children. He married Eunice Twombly (c. 1795-1848) in 1815 and they had ten children. In 1849 he married Emma Tallman Edgar (1820-?) and they had six children. He died in 1884 in West Haven, Connecticut.

James D. Porter was born Dec. 7, 1828 in Paris Tennessee. He married Susanna Dunlap in 1851. James Porter was 1st elected governor of the state of Tennessee in 1874. He died on the 18th of May, 1912 at his home in Paris, Tennessee.
