Archibald Prater (1755-1831) was born in Halifax Co., VA. He moved from Virginia and was a pioneer settler of Floyd Co., Kentucky. Margaret Verlinda Shanks was born 12 December 1845 in Paris, Kentucky. Her parents were David Shanks and Barbara H. True. She married Ira Thomas 26 September 1861. They had one daughter. She married Edwin Porter Ammerman 18 January 1866. They had two sons. She died in 1935 in California.
