A Methodist Church was formed in Iuka, Kansas, by 1878. Many of these members were involved in the organization of the First Methodist Church in Pratt, Kansas. The Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Pratt, Kansas, was organized in 1884. The first building for the First Methodist Church was built in 1886.

Richard Marden Pratt (1912- ) was born in Washougal, Washington to Benjamin Marden Pratt and Lily Cecilia Shirk. In 1934 he married Adaline Kearl (1913- ). She was born in Cardston, Alberta to George and Rose Marie Enders Kearl. In 1957 Richard entered into the LDS Church Educational System. He was involved in teaching and administration in Utah, California and the Gilbert Islands. Richard and Adaline are the parents of six children.
