Harvey Miles Presnell was born in North Carolina in 1820. He fought in the Civil War and later married Rilda Hicks. They were the parents of twelve children. Information on his French Huguenot ancestry and their descendants is given in this volume. Descendants continue to live in North Carolina and elsewhere.

David Hicks (ca. 1719-ca. 1792), a son of Samuel Hix (or Hicks) and Diana Willis, was born in Virginia. His wife's name is not known. They had six children. The family moved to North Carolina, living in two counties before finally settling on the Watauga River. Many descendants still live in the area.

George Parker Jr. (1612-1656) was a son of George Parker (1575-1658) of Kent, England. George Jr. immigrated in 1635 to Boston, and settled in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, later moving to New Jersey. Descendants and relatives lived in New England, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Kansas and elsewhere.

Thomas Coffey was born 7 March 1742 in Essex County, Virginia, the son of John and Jane Coffey. His grandfather Coffey came from Ireland to Liverpool then immigrated to Essex County, Virginia in about 1690. Thomas married twice, first to Elisabeth Smith, and second to Sarah Fields. He moved to Wilkes County, North Carolina sometime between 1775 and 1780 and settled on the upper waters of the Yadkin River, where he remained until his death in 1825....
