John Foster New (1762-1842) married Sarah Elizabeth Wright and immigrated from England to Stokes County, North Carolina, moving later to Warren County, Kentucky about 1812 and to Wayne County and then Hancock County, Indiana. Symon Jansz arrived in New Amsterdam in 1653 and took the surname van Arsdalen. He married Pieterje Cornelissen von Schouw ca. 1658. Her father had settled in New Amsterdam in 1636 and purchased land on what is now Long Island.
