The first known Pruitt in Alabama was William Pruitt, Sr. He moved with his son, Jacob Pruitt, and daughter, Mary Grayson, from Knox Co., Tennessee in 1807, and settled in Madison Co., Alabama.

Brite Pruitt (1770-1836), the son of Michael Pruitt and Elizabeth Bright, was born probably in what was then 96 District, South Carolina. He married first Annister "Ann"? (d. 1815) ca. 1790. Beasley Pruitt (1740-1839), the son of Uriah Pruitt, Jr. and Elizabeth, was born in Virginia. He married (1) Eleanor Humpherys (ca. 1750-ca. 1805) ca. 1770 in Virginia. They had seven children. Samuel Pruett was born 18 August 1776 in Henry County, Virginia. His father was Richard Prewitt. He married Hannah Higgins (1780-1863) in 1798. They had ten children. They lived in Knox County, Kentucky until 1818, when they moved to Ray County, Missouri. Samuel died in 1836. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived mainly in Kentucky, North Carolina, Missouri and California.

Isham Prewitt, Sr., son of Uriah Prewitt, was born in Henrico County, Virginia about 1725. He married Frances Maddox. They had 6 children. Isham died in Mercer County, Kentucky in 1806, however no mention is made of Frances. Their descendants have lived in Kentucky, Virginia, Missouri, Texas, and other areas in the United States.
