Chiefly ancestors, relatives and family of the author's father, Thomas Granville Pullen (1854-1925). He was born on his father's farm, about four miles from Liberty, now Bedford, Virginia, and son of Jesse Abason Pullen (1831-1906) and Frances Miles Walker Pullen (1830-1914). He married Annie Brown Hilldrup in 1886 at Smithfield, Virginia. They had eight children, 1889-1904.

Thomas Pullen, living in St. Stephen's Parish, Northumberland County, Virginia, made his will 16 June 1767. In the will, he refers to his wife by the name "Elizabeth". Her maiden name is unknown. John and Elizabeth Pullen had seven children. Descendants lived in Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Indiana, Georgia, and elswhere.
Includes the Blackburn, Nooner, Matthews and other related families.

Sarah Somers (1816-1875), born in Germany, married an Italian named Stapper before 1840. They had three children, all of whom were born in Alabama between 1840-1844. There are no records that tell what became of Mr. Stapper. In 1852, Sarah married Henderson Shoafe; they lived at Sumpterville, Sumter County, Alabama and had two children. Descendants have lived throughout the southern United States.

Nicholas Pullen and Mary Tucker, both of Rehoboth, Massachusetts, were married in 1709/10. They had eight children, 1710-1722. He died at Marblehead, Massachusetts, in 1723.
