Michael Cunningham was born in Roscommon County, Ireland, in 1814 or 1815, the son of B. and Margaret Coyle Cunningham. He and his sister immigrated to the United States in 1836. He worked in New York, Rhode Island, Alabama, Kentucky, before settling in Daviess County, Indiana, in 1843.
