George Washington Terry (1841-1872) was born in Dekalb County, Georgia, the son of Green Berry Hill Terry (1810-1848) and Margaret Eleanor Gill Terry (1811-1861). The family migrated to Arkansas in 1848 and settled near New London, Union County, Arkansas. He served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War.
