John Peter Glattfelder and his brother, Casper, and their families emigrated from Switzerland to Philadelphia in 1745. John Peter died enroute, and his son, Hans Rudolph, settled the family in York County, Pennsylvania. Descendants listed changed the surname to Clodfelter, and lived in Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina, Indiana and elsewhere.
