Lemuel Reid (1818-1867) was born in Abbeville District, S.C., the son of Samuel Reid and Elizabeth Ann Willson. At the age of 22 he married Sophia Weston White, the daughter of John White of Abbeville District and Elizabeth Jones of Georgia. Between 1841 and 1866 Sophia bore thirteen children.
