George Hartley, son of David Hartley and Betsey Scholefield, was born in 1849 in Liversedge, Yorkshire, England. He married Rebecca Richards, daughter of Samuel RIchards and Mary Ann Tolley, in 1870 in Bradford, Yorkshire. They had three children. He died in 1933 in Ogden, Utah.

He married Elizabeth James and their first three children were born at Tywardreath, Cornwall, England. Lorenzo Brown (1823-1900), was born in the township of Pomfret, Chautauque County, New York to Benjamin and Sarah Brown. Lorenzo's parents joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints after hearing missionaries preach in 1834 and later traveled to Nauvoo, Illinois June 6, 1839. They crossed the plains with the Latter-day Saint caravan in 1848 and settled in Utah before moving to Arizona. They had eight children.
