Edward Howard (1665-1720), the great-grandfather of Uriah Howard (1763- 1845), was born in Devonshire, England and emigrated to America where he settled in Lynn, Massachusetts. Uriah was born in Hebron, Connecticut and eventually died in Maine. He fought in the American Revolution and married Lydia Rice in 1783. Louis Joseph Rice was born 23 March 1886 in Matawan, New Jersey. His parents were Joseph Lafayette Marion Rice and Clara Evelyn Anderson. Traces his ancestors to Robert Royce, who was born in Somerset, England and immigrated to New London Connecticut in about 1644. Ancestors and relatives lived mainly in New Jersey and Connecticut.

William Ames (1605-1654) and John Ames, sons of John Ames, of Bruton, England emigrated in 1635 and settled in Massachusetts. Wiliam married Hannah and they had six children, all born in Braintree, Massachusetts.
