Edward Griffin was born in 1602 in Wales, son of John Griffin and Ann Langford. He came to Virginia in 1635 and later lived in New York. His descendant, Jesse Ryder Griffin (1825-1883), lived in Peerskill, New York and married Catherine Thompson. Descendants lived in New York, Illinois, Florida, and elsewhere.

Samuel Ryder/Rider is mentioned in Colonial records as early as 1638/9. He probably died in 1679. His wife's name was Anne. She died in 1695. Their children were Benjamin, John, Samuel, Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, Zachary and Joseph.

John Rider, son of George Rider, was born in Holland in 1752. He came to America before the Revolutionary War and settled on the eastern shore of Maryland. He later went to Leacock Township, Pennsylvania, and served in the Pennsylvania militia during the War. After the War, he went to Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, where he married Margaret Engle. They later moved to Richmond, Jefferson County, Ohio, then finally to Athens, Athens County, Ohio....

William Rider (ca.1650-1724) moved from Cambridge to Watertown, Massachusetts, married Hannah Lovett in 1674, and later moved to Sherborn, Massachusetts. Descendants and relatives lived in New England, New York and elsewhere.
