Samuel Salyer, nicknamed "The Legislator," was a descendant of William M. Salyer and Nancy Raney of North Carolina. Samuel married Malinda Arnett. Their Salyer descendants and related Salyers lived primarily in Eastern Kentucky.

Jacob Shepherd was born in 1781, the son of John Shepherd, probably in Virginia. He married Elizabeth Hale who had been born in 1793. Their children included Lucretia, Bryson, John, David, Wilson, Sylvester, William, Elizabeth, Susannah and Abel. Jacob died in Magoffin County, Kentucky in 1858. .
