Miles Lassiter (ca. 1777-ca. 1851) was most likely one of three slaves mentioned in the 1785 tax record for Randolph County, North Carolina, in 1785, beloging to Sarah Lassiter and her son, Micajah. Quakers involved in the abolitionist movement were perhaps instrumental in helping Miles attain his freedom. Description
Miles Lassiter was born a slave in North Carolina about 1877. He obtained his freedom before 1850 and continued to reside in the state. He became a Quaker about 1845 and was married to Healy Phillips. They were the parents of seven children. Descendants and relatives live mainly in North Carolina, New York, Virginia and Maryland.
