William Sawyer (1613-1703) was one of the founders of the Baptist Church at Newbury in 1682. His wife's name was Ruth. Brothers Edmund, William and Thomas Sawyer immigrated from England to Massachusetts in 1635/1636, and Thomas Sawyer married Mary Prescott in 1643, settled at Lancaster, Massachusetts in 1647/1648, and died after 1675. Descendants lived in New England, Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin and elsewhere.
