Franz Wilhelm Schilling von Canstatt was born 23 May 1832 in Hohenwettersbach, Germany. His parents were Wilhelm Heinrich Schilling von Cansatt (1796-1856) and Augusta Neubronn von Eisenberg (1803-1863). He immigrated to America in 1861. He married Mollie Booker (1842-1881) 21 March 1869. They had four children. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Virginia.
