The earliest known ancestor of this family was Johann Adam Doerrbecker from Reibertenrod, near Alsfeld in Germany. The emigrant ancestor, Johann George (known as George) (1789-1862), was the son of Johann Dietrich Doerrbecker and Anna Margarethe Raeuber. Johannes Schmidt was the son of Johannes and Elizabeth. He was the first to use the spelling of "dt" instead of "tt" and is the progenitor of the Schmidt family in America. Johannes was born on 20 March 1812 in Kirtorf, Germany. He married Maria Catharina Schaefer on 7 November 1841. Frederick Milatz (b.1837) was born at Neuhaus, Germany, a small village on the Elbe River, about 20 kilometers south of Hamburg. He was married to Elizabeth (b.1830) in 1867. Frederick and Elizabeth raised two children, Amelia and Frederick William. In 1886, the family immigrated to Preston (Cambridge), Ontario, Canada. Descendants live in Ontario, Canada.
