Karl Schmidt was born in 1445. He lived in Baden, Germany. Descendant, Johannes Schmidt, was born 22 June 1677. He married Anna Lucia Schmidt (1677-1751). They lived in Ittlingen, Germany. They emigrated in 1705 and settled in Philadelphia. Their children spelled their name "Smith".

Schmidt (1847-1913), a son of August and descendant of Dutch immigrants to Germany, Poland and Russia, married Helena Boese (a granddaughter of Martin) in 1869, and they immigrated in 1874 from Russia (via Pennsylvania for a short stay) to Pawnee Rock, Kansas. Fredrick George Schmidt (1806-1877) was born at Dresden, Germany. He immigrated to America ca. 1838. He married Caroline Matilda Beadle (1838-1915), a native of Abbeville, Louisiana, ca. 1842.
