Johannes Henkel (1814-1890) was born at Breidenstein, Hesse, Germany, the son of Johann Jacob Henkel (1782-1840). He married Katharina Plack (1825-1903) in 1844 at Wolzhausen. They had five children, 1845-1857. The family immigrated to the United States in 1861 and settled at Germantown, Ohio. They migrated to Pendleton, Indiana, ca. 1866 and to Springfield, Ohio, in 1871.
