Chiefly a record of the ancestors of Frances Arthur Hortsch, daughter of Arthur Francis Hortsch and Marjory MacKay Bell. Frances was born on 29 October 1918 in Glen Ridge, Essex, New Jersey and died on 7 January 1999 in Phoenix, Maricopa, Arizona. She apparently never married. Relatives and ancestors have resided in Germany, Scotland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Arizona, and elsewhere.

Description
Johannes Schneider, son of Johannes Schneider and Elisabetha Zimmerman, was born 11 October 1787 in Germany. He married Dorothea Mallod (d. 1827) in 1807. They had five children. He married Margaretha Simon in 1830. They emigrated in 1834 and settled in Ohio.

Description
Hans Caspar Schneider from Hesse married Catharina in 1679. They were the parents of five children. The son from whom the family descends was Lorenzo (1681-1735). Anton Schneider (1860-1930) appears to be the first Schneider to come to America where he settled in Wisconsin. Descendants live in Wisconsin.

Henry Snyder III was born ca. 1777 in Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania. He was a descendant of Jacob Snyder (or Schneider) who immigrated to America ca. 1739 and settled in Pennsylvania. Henry married Catharine Keplinger sometime prior to the year 1805. They lived in Boonsboro, Maryland and were the parents of seven known children. Descendants lived in Maryland, Ohio, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Texas, Canada and elsewhere.

Louis Schneider (b.1829) emigrated in 1849 from Germany to New York. His daughter, Sophie Schneider (b.1862), married Alfred Vischer and immigrated in 1888 to Bremerhaven, Germany. Their daughter, Rotraut Vischer (b. 1889), became a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and immigrated to Portola Valley, California.

Chancy Alancy Snyder (1864-1949) was born in Grand Rapids, Wisconsin to Henry Edward and Martha Jane Wakeley Snyder. He married Sarah Hannah Crapo (1878-1928) and they were the parents of three children. Chancy descended from early Dutch and German immigrants who settled in New York.
