George H. Foos (1845-1884), probably a son of John Foss and Eva Shield, married Katherine E. Gillig. After his death, Katherine and the family immigrated from Russia to Bison, Kansas in 1885. Descendants and relatives lived in Kansas, Missouri, Colorado, Nebraska, Washington and elsewhere. Includes some possible ancestors in various towns in the Volga area of Russia where Foos ancestral immigrants from Germany probably settled.

Chiefly a record of various families from Dietel (Oleshna, Aleshnika) and Merekel (Makarovka), Russia, with the surname Foos. Also contains families from Friendenfeld (Beritschik now Komosomolskoye or Zhirnoye). Contains some descendants of Johannes Foos (Foose) who was born in 1737 and helped found the colony of Dietel in 1767. Descendants of these families lived in Russia, Canada, Germany, Kansas, Montana, Colorado, and elsewhere.

Description
The earliest Talsma to come to the United States was Egbert Attes Talsma (1834-1909). He married Minke Hieltjes Ynzonides in August of 1871. Minke died on July 16, 1881. Egbert remarried on June 3, 1883, to Grietje Jans Hiemstra. They and their family immigrated to the United States in 1886 and settled in the Holland, Michigan, area. Descendants and relatives lived in Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, California, Canada and elsewhere.
