Descendants of Thomas and Ann Scurlock of Richmond County, Virginia, originally from Wales. They had seven children. William, the oldest, was a Baptist preacher. Mial, his brother moved to North Carolina in 1756. He lived in Pittsboro, N.C. and died in 1785. Descendants live mainly in Texas and North Carolina.

William Scurlock migrated from Wales before the Revolution and settled in Spotsylvania county, Virginia. He was a Baptist preacher and accumulated considerable property which was left to his oldest son, William. Many of his descendants some of whom settled in Texas and the Southwest are included in this history. Includes Scurlock, Wyatt, Tennison, Harris, and related families.

William Mead was born in England in 1597 or 1600. He married Martha (d. 19 September 1657) in 1625. They came to Massachusetts in 1635 and later moved to Connecticut. WIlliam died in 1663. Descendants lived in Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, Ohio, Iowa, Michigan and Alabama. Thomas A. Scurlock was born in 1786, and the family lived in Laurens Co., South Carolina in 1810. He moved to Lincoln Co., Tennessee in 1819, and to Jackson Co., Alabama in 1829. He died in 1847.

Allen Mead (1793-1849), a son of Michael and Matty Mead, moved from New York to Huron County, Ohio, and served in the army during the War of 1812. He married Sally Scarlett after the war.
