George Washington Shank was born October 11 1856 in Holmes County, Ohio. His parents were Joseph Shank (1825-1891) and Lanna Hager (1820-1888). George served in the Civil War. His family moved to Shelby County, Missouri in 1877. He married Mary Anna Garner (1857-1902) October 16, 1877. They had five children. They moved to Rush County, Kansas in 1886. George died in 1893. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Kansas and Colorado.

Michael Shank (b.ca.1756) and his family immigrated from Pennsylvania to Haldimand County, Ontario in 1800 and, the author believes, was the father of Henry, Michael and John Shank (brothers) who settled in Markham Township, York County, Ontario. Descendants lived in Ontario and elsewhere.

Christian Burkhalter (1708-1754), a Mennonite, emigrated with his parents from Switzerland to Germany in 1732, and married in 1737. After his parents died, the family emigrated in 1754 from Germany (via Rotterdam, where Christian died) to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Descendants spelled the surname "Burkholder" and lived in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Missouri and elsewhere. Some descendants immigrated to Canada.

Jacob Dengler/Dangler (b. 1731) immigrated to Philadelphia, via Rotterdam in 1750. He married Catherine Walder and they had at least six children. Descendants and relatives (as well as other Danglers) lived in Ohio, Missouri, Michigan, Indiana, California and elsewhere in the United States as well as in Canada.
