John Ewald (1707-1792) immigrated from Germany (via Rotterdam) to Philadelphia in 1753, served in the Pennsylvania military during the French and Indian War, and settled in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, later moving to Bedford County, Pennsylvania. Descendants (chiefly spelling the surname Ewalt) lived throughout the United States. Includes genealogical data on other Ewalt immigrants.

Richard Stout was born ca. 1610, probably in Burton Joyce Parish, Nottinghamshire, England, the son of John and Elizabeth Bee Stout. Richard joined the English Navy and was at sea for seven years when he arrived at New Amsterdam. Richard married Penelope Van Princin at Gravesend, Long Island in 1634/5. They had ten children.
