Edward Doty was probably born around 1599 in England. In 1620 he immigrated to America on the Mayflower as a servant of Stephen Hopkins. In 1621 he was involved in the only duel in the history of Plymouth Colony. Edward married Faith Clarke and they were the parents of nine children. Descendants live in Massachusetts and other parts of the United States.

James Meadows was born ca. 1726-1733 and married Ellenor Shearman, daughter of John and Catherine Shearman. His grandson, John Meadows, married Elizabeth Goss in 1808, daughter of Thomas Goss Sr. and Fanny Shearman. Many of the family lived in Granville County, North Carolina.
