Joseph Henry White, son of William A. White and Nancy Pewett, was born in 1823. He married Margaret Saphronia Shell (1833-1916), daughter of Robert McCall Shell and Frances Parthenia Baker, in 1855. They had eight children. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in North Carolina.
