Elias LeGard (b.1586), a French Huguenot, immigrated in 1621 to Elizabeth County, Virginia (listed as LeGardo in some records). His son, Thomas Alligood Sr. (ca.1627/1629-1689), married Mary Field about 1647, and lived in Northampton County, Virginia. Descendants and relatives lived in Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia and elsewhere. Some descendants immigrated to New Brunswick and elsewhere in Canada.

Jacob Mc Lain (ca. 1755-ca. 1835) married Elizabeth Wilson (ca. 1773- after May 1835), a natve of Ireland, in Pennsylvania. They had six children, 1781-1801. The family lived in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, until ca. 1806 when they migrated to Muskingum County, Ohio. Jacob and Elizabeth Mc Lain both died in Muskingum County. Descendants listed lived in Ohio, Indiana, Iowa, Wisconsin, California, and elsewhere.
